Founding corpus project
- INTRODUCTION
- COLLECTIONS
Electronic Enlightenment follows a parallel publishing track: first, as a “derivative publication”, EE digitizes and then adds significant scholarly metadata to a critical mass of correspondences drawn from some 20 contributing academic presses; second, as an “original publication”, EE is producing increasing numbers of born digital materials exclusive to the resource.
The “founding corpus”, on which the derivative publication is based, consists of nearly 75,000 letters drawn from scholarly editions from an international range of academic publishers (all of which are gradually being published following extensive metadata development). This initial, critical mass of correspondence was digitized as part of EE's research and development stage with support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
